Membership Terms & Conditions
1. Introduction
These Membership Terms & Conditions govern membership of Screen Craft Guild Cyf, hereafter SCGC.
Membership is designed to support an industry-led community of screen design professionals and to ensure fair and informed participation in The Ember Awards.
2. Membership Categories
Membership tiers are designed to reflect different stages of professional experience and levels of responsibility within the screen industries.
All members are valued as part of the Guild.
Membership and voting eligibility are determined at the point of application based on demonstrable professional experience.
This structure ensures that Guild voting reflects informed professional judgement, while maintaining an inclusive and supportive membership community.
Borderline applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We are open to differing circumstances, recognising that career paths and progression vary, but the Guild has final say in allocation of memberships
2.1 Full Voting Members (Established / Senior Professionals)
Annual Fee: £50 inc VAT
Eligibility
Applicants must meet both of the following criteria:
A. Professional Experience

A minimum of 5 years’ verifiable professional experience in film and/or television
B. Qualifying Role Experience
-
A minimum of 3 years (36 months) accumulated experience working in one or more qualifying roles listed below
Experience may be accumulated across multiple productions and roles, but must demonstrate sustained professional practice at an appropriate level of responsibility.
Applicants must have undertaken these roles within recognised professional productions and be able to demonstrate appropriate level of responsibility and credit.

Applicants must demonstrate experience in one or more of the following roles (or equivalent):

Costume Designer
Costume Supervisor
Assistant Costume Designer
Crowd Supervisor

Head Cutter / Cutter

MAKE-UP & HAIR
Make-up & Hair Designer
Make-up Supervisor

Specialist roles (including Wigs)

Applicants may be required to provide evidence of professional experience upon request, including:

Two existing members may support an application where applicable.
Rights
-
Full voting rights in all Guild awards and decisions

Eligibility to stand for Committee roles (subject to governance rules)

Eligibility to nominate individuals to the Ember Award for Craft Ally

Access to all Guild events, communications and opportunities
-
Entitled to purchase +1 event tickets
-
Inclusion in the Membership Directory (optional)
2.2 Associate Members (Established Industry Professionals)
Annual Fee: £30 inc VAT
Eligibility
-
Minimum 3+ years professional experience in film and/or television, OR
-
Established professional experience within the industry
And:
-
Do not currently meet the criteria for Full Voting Membership
(e.g. not yet accumulated sufficient experience in qualifying roles, or working in other industry roles)
This category includes:
-
Professionals working in related or supporting departments
-
Individuals progressing toward senior or qualifying roles
Rights
-
No voting rights in main award categories
-
Eligibility to nominate individuals to the Ember Award for Craft Ally
-
Eligibility to nominate or vote only in selected categories where specified
-
Access to events, networking opportunities and communications
-
+1 tickets subject to availability
-
Eligibility to upgrade to Full Membership when criteria are met
-
Inclusion in the Membership Directory (optional)
2.3 Emerging Members (Students & Early Career)
Annual Fee: £18 inc VAT
Eligibility
-
Individuals entering the industry
-
Students or early-career professionals
-
Those who do not meet the experience thresholds for other categories
Rights
-
No voting rights in main award categories
-
Eligibility to nominate individuals to the Ember Award for Craft Ally
-
Eligibility to nominate or vote only in selected categories where specified
-
Access to selected events, opportunities and communications
-
Inclusion in Guild communications
-
Inclusion in the Membership Directory (optional)
3. Membership Eligibility Requirements
3.1 All applicants must demonstrate a genuine connection to the screen industries, including film, television, or related media.
3.2 SCGC Ltd reserves the right to request:
-
CV or portfolio
-
Credits or verifiable work history
-
References (where appropriate)
3.3 Membership approval is at the discretion of the SCGC
3.4 Applicants should demonstrate a meaningful connection to Wales or the Welsh screen industry. This may include residence, work history, or self-identification, and will be considered at the discretion of SCGC in alignment with eligibility terms for the Ember Awards.
3.5 All decisions regarding membership eligibility are final and made at the discretion of SCGC. The Organisation is not required to provide detailed justification for such decisions
4. Voting Rights & Responsibilities
4.1 Only Full Voting Members are eligible to vote in main categories of The Ember Awards.
4.2 Voting members must:

Act with integrity and professionalism.

Avoid conflicts of interest.

Only vote in categories where they have sufficient knowledge and have engaged with the submitted work to make an informed judgement.
4.3 SCGC Ltd reserves the right to:
-
Suspend voting rights in cases of misconduct.

Introduce additional voting guidelines where necessary.
5. Membership Fees
5.1 Membership fees are payable annually.
5.2 Fees may be reviewed and adjusted by SCGC.
5.3 Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the SCGC.
6. Conduct
Members are expected to:

Uphold the values of SCGC
-
Treat other members with respect
-
Support a fair and inclusive industry environment.

Members must not engage in behaviour that could bring the Organisation or its activities into disrepute.
SCGC Ltd reserves the right to terminate membership in cases of misconduct.
7. Termination of Membership
Membership may be terminated if:

A member fails to meet eligibility criteria.
-
A member breaches these terms.
-
Fees are not paid.
Members may resign at any time, fees are not refundable.
8. Data & Communications
Members agree to:
-
Receive communications related to SCGC
-
The use of their professional details for SCGC purposes
All data will be handled in accordance with UK data protection regulations including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR)
9. Amendments
SCGC Ltd reserves the right to amend these terms as required.
Members will be notified of any significant changes.
