THE EMBER AWARDS

WHERE CRAFT TAKES CENTRE STAGE

Craft shapes everything we see on screen – bringing story worlds to life through design, creativity and collaboration.

The Ember Awards celebrate excellence in the screen craft disciplines and bring that work into clear focus. They exist to honour the creativity, skill and collaboration of film and television professionals across production design, costume and hair & make-up.

Entries open 1st June 2026.

AWARD CATEGORIES

The Ember Awards are industry-led and responsive to the changing production landscape, placing design excellence firmly centre stage. Rooted in the strength and ambition of the Welsh screen sector, they are a celebration of craft at its highest level.

Each year, 10 awards are presented across three disciplines, using an adaptive model that reflects the breadth and diversity of work being entered. Categories are defined annually by the Guild in response to the entries submitted.

ELIGIBILITY

The Ember Awards welcomes submissions from Guild members (apply for membership to be eligible to submit) who:

  • were born in Wales

  • OR have live in and have a minimum of five years’ continuous residence in Wales

  • OR can demonstrate a meaningful connection to the Welsh screen industry (subject to review by the Guild)

Non-Welsh HODs may also be eligible where the majority of filming (more than 50%) has taken place in Wales.

For more information about eligibility, the judging process and adaptive awards categories, please see the Ember Awards Entry Guidance and full Terms and Conditions.

ADAPTIVE AWARDS EXPLAINED

Submissions are made by discipline at the point of entry – production design, costume, hair & make-up. Once the entry window closes, the Guild reviews the body of work and defines that year’s award categories based on the volume, scale, format and creative nature of the entries.

This approach ensures that both large-scale international productions and smaller independent projects can be recognised on their own terms.

VOTING

Shortlisting and final craft awards are determined by full voting members of the Guild – who are all practitioners actively working within the craft disciplines.

Nominations and winning work is selected based on the expertise, insight and consideration of these professional members.

Nominees for the Ember Award for Craft Ally are submitted by Guild members of any tier, the final award recipient is then chosen by the committee.
